This page is intended to be a kind of catch-all dumping ground for stuff related to this comic. I'm planning on updating it with more details and extras in the future. In the meantime, here's a button if you'd want to ever link back to this website:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions that no one asked but I'll answer anyway.

Q: Do you use AI?

A: I do not use or endorse AI.

Q: Where do you get the images for the backgrounds in your comic?

A: The images in my art are sourced from either postcards or images available through wikimedia or the internet archive. I use a very rudimentary method of compositing the images to make a background. A heavy use of the lasso tool and copy and paste.

Q: Do the character names have any significant meaning?

A: You bet they do. Everything in this story has almost an excruciating level of detail.

Q: I noticed an anachronistic detail in the comic. What's the deal, man?

A: Please imagine that this takes place in an alternate universe that is the same except for the places where I messed up.

MISC. ART

The first semi-coherent iteration of this story began in 2022. I've selected a few older pieces of art to showcase the character design process.

1 / 13
2024: Here's a lineup of all of the characters. The most semi-recent piece of art.
2 / 13
May 2022: The earliest color drawing of the characters. Featuring (from left to right): The Entity, MICHAEL, M. Leigh and Shelly (and MICHAEL again for some reason).
3 / 13
Jun. 2022: MICHAEL was supposed to originally wear one of M. Leigh's former wigs. I ended up dropping the wig idea in the end and just gave him a severe combover instead.
4 / 13
Jun. 2022: An early version of Charles and Lillian. The aesthetics for The Saucer People at this point were pretty different.
5 / 13
lmao
Jul. 2022: I just thought this one was funny. I'm still kind of proud of this piece.
6 / 13
Aug. 2022: M. Leigh was supposed to constantly cycle through a bunch of dresses from the 1910s. This ended up being more difficult to draw than I expected. Also featuring MICHAEL wearing a blond wig.
7 / 13
Sept. 2022: Maria (named Margaret at this stage) was originally supposed to be Ben's twin.
8 / 13
Oct. 2022: Shelly went through so many different hair/outfit changes. Here we can see a blonde version of her.
9 / 13
Oct. 2022: Charles and Lillian were a real pain in the ass to figure out design wise. Here's an unsuccessful drawing featuring their younger selves. Also featured in this drawing are a young M. Leigh and Shelly West.
10 / 13
Feb. 2023: The brunette on the end was originally supposed to be Ben's ex-wife. I ended up using the design for Lillian Armstrong in the end.
11 / 13
Mar. 2023: A drawing of M. Leigh's family tree and an early Gloria design that I did not end up using. I ended up using an older character's design for Gloria in the end.
12 / 13
Apr. 2023: An early attempt at a comic.
13 / 13
Nov. 2023: I was trying to create a brush/stamp to use for texture in the comic. The drawing you see here is the first successful result. This helped create the general look of the comic going forward.

NAMES

The names are pulled from various UFO contactee/religion related people and/or concepts. Any other references are either related to death/spirituality or are completely arbitrary. Enjoy!

Character Name Origin
M. Leigh West/Marian Leigh West M. Leigh's name is inspired by Majel Barrett (Majel Leigh or M. Leigh). However, Marian is taken from the psuedonym given to Dorothy Martin from the book When Prophecy Fails. Additionally, M. Leigh's name is meant to be a parallel to LRH.
Jonathan Benjamin Wilkinson Jr./The Entity/T.E. The format of Ben's name is a play on Marshall Applewhite's name. The use of Jonathan originated from John of the Cross. This was specifically chosen because of his connection with St. Teresa of Avila, who was his mentor. The name Benjamin is more of less a result of mangling the birth-name of the Public Universal Friend. The surname "Wilkinson" also is derived from PUF. And finally, the name "T.E." is an extremely convoluted way to mirror "Ti".
MICHAEL/Tomás Cruz MICHAEL, or Made In Christ's Holy Almighty Eternal Love, took inspiration from the use of Unarius as an acronym ("UNniversal ARticulate Interdimensional Understanding of Science"). His real name is also a pun (Tom Cruise).
Shelly West Shelly West is a fake name that Bonnie Nettles used in hospitals near her death.
Charles and Lillian Armstrong I just mixed the psuedonyms and the real names used in When Prophecy Fails for Dr. Laughead and his wife.
Gloria Angela Hill Gloria is taken from the contactee Gloria Lee. Her surname is taken from Betty and Barney Hill. Angela is taken from Betty and Barney Hill's granddaughter.
Jean and Carlos Mundo Shelly's aunt, Jean Mundo, has not been shown in the comic yet--but here's the origin of it anyway. I was listening to a podcast about contactees and I heard the name Laura Mundo. I thought it was neat and decided to use it. I am unsure where the Jean aspect of the name originated from. Carlos is more or less just my attempt to reverse engineer a name that would sound good with the surname Mundo. Probably the least amount of thought used for names so far.
Joseph Bradford Walker The source of this name arbitrarily comes from the Kommissar X series. My motivation for using the name Joe Walker was primarily because of this song. I gave Joe the middle name 'Bradford' as a tribute to Brad Harris, one of the actors in the Kommissar X films.
Maria Teresa Wilkinson Maria is based off of Tuesday Weld, specifically from the film Play It As It Lays (1972). Her name is taken directly as a reference to the role/character in the book. It is also pronounced the same way ("Mariah"). Her middle name is taken from Teresa of Avila. And as stated before, Wilkinson originates from the Public Universal Friend.
